Found Engagement Ring Setting At Jared But Want To Get Center Stone Elsewhere?
My girlfriend showed me the setting that she loves and its from Jared. The closest Jared jewelry store is 4 hours away from me. I was thinking about getting the setting from Jared and the center stone diamond from a local jeweler so its closer if there happens to be any problems with the stone. My question is has anyone done this and if so how does it work with the warranty of the ring etc; or would it just be better to get it all from Jared? Thanks
It's only a bad situation if something goes wrong.
It's best to get everything at one place.
Ask if the place that has the stone can duplicate the setting you saw.

I think it would be easier to get it at one place. Usually the problem is with the setting coming loose and dropping the Stone, so then you would have to places to deal with! Its also easier to insure if it is complete from one place

I don’t recommend this because of the insurance hassles. Our daughter had he engagement ring for a long time (sparing you the boring details) and so the wedding ring was discontinued by the time her FH went to buy it. We got a similar one from another jeweler and they both waive everything off on each other. Something about a loose stone, a scratch in the platinum finish; minor stuff, but very irritating.

Dear Friend
Many factors govern the quality & cost of the jewelry. Large variety of materials is being introduced day by day to fulfill the requirements of the customer. More than fifty kind of metals and metal alloys are being used for making jewelry all over the world. Among that Diamond has an edge quality.
Diamond has a unique characteristic of reflecting light by total internal multiple reflections. The cut and finish decides the quality of the diamond. I am also that much aware about these specifications. Please go through online. You will get a number of sites providing valuable information. Recently I searched

It really and truly would not behoove you to buy the ring at two separate establishments.
Honestly, you are more likely to have an issue with the band/setting than you are the actual diamond. Usually if there is a problem with the stone, its because of the setting. The prongs are bent, or loose, the metal discolours, or reacts with your natural chemical make-up. The band gets bent or broken somehow. You aren’t easily going to chip or damage a diamond, as long as you use common sense. Do not stick your hand in a bucket that has cleaning chemicals in it, without gloves or with your ring on. Don’t garden with it on, and keep it out of water as much as possible. Yes, I know it will not actually damage the stone, and shouldn’t damage the gold, but what water does do, is get trapped under the stone and can cause the setting to become weak thus causing the stone to become loose or sometimes fall out all together.
If you want to actually design the ring, go to a private jeweler and work with them to design the ring, and purchase the stone through them. That way you also have an appraisal certificate, and warranty. It would also benefit you to insure the ring, just in case it gets stolen or lost. Or it somehow becomes so damaged that it cannot be fixed.
Besides I am not sure if you would be able to have a warranty or insurance on a ring that was purchased at two different stores. What I can tell you, is if you buy the setting/band from Jared’s and it is altered in ANY WAY, your warranty is invalid anyhow. I guarantee this means setting a stone in it also. Same with a stone purchased separately, if it is altered at all, including being set, it is an invalid warranty.
Best of luck to you.
PS. If you call the establishment and ask if setting a stone counts as it being altered, and they say no, it doesn’t and your warranty is still valid, get it in writing. If you don’t they will not honor it.

We did that. We got the setting at Jarreds and the center stone elswehere. This can save you thousands of dollars. We bought the diamond loose with excellent specifications (I got a VVS1, 1 ct, which is nearly flawless) and took it to Jarred’s for them to set it. The jeweler’s jaw dropped and they said that they have never seen a diamond that pure and that certainly they do not carry diamonds of that high quality in their store.
We got the Jarred’s warranty which is a GREAT deal. For only $90 you get re-sizing for life, cleaning for life, inspections for life, if it’s white gold plating for life, and also stone replacement for the band. We have already used the warranty as one of the diamonds on the setting (which were rather large) came loose and missing, they replaced it with no problem and no questions asked. Best deal and fantastic piece of mind.
For the entire ring and since the center stone which is quite valuable, we got a separate insurance as it’s a five figure ring. We bought the loose diamond at http://www.amazon.com
Do it, you won’t regret it.
Good luck

if you buy the band at jared and you get a warranty on it their they will only warranty the gold or the actual band. The diamond provider will warranty the diamond and of course since they will be the ones placing it in the band they would warranty the placement of the diamond check with the diamond providers policy first or maybe even talk to Jared about price matching the other store so you can get it done all at once place.. I played that game several times a lot of the big jewelers if you provide proof of a price quote for a specific size, color, clarity they will price match to get your business. Good luck.

You’re going to have people warn you that it’s a hassle to get them in separate places–and it probably IS a hassle. But if you don’t mind putting in some work, you can definitely find a higher quality center diamond at a lower price online than you could in your local stores. Good luck!
